Decided to start a new picture series, showcasing my favorite female characters of one of my favorite genres. Starting things off with the last companion of the original run of Doctor Who, wielder of mystically-empowered baseball bats and exploder of volatile deodorants, the girl known chiefly as "Ace"! Ace was one of my favorite characters in the series, certainly the companion I found that I identified with the most, so when the idea for this series came to me, choosing her as my first entry was a no-brainer.

As I was looking up pictures of Ace as references for her pic, I stumbled onto the news that she and Tegan were making a return appearance for the 13th Doctor's final episode, and so, to mark the occasion, I had to do a piece for Tegan!
Artist's Note: Gott DAYUM that rainbow dress was hard to do!

I have to be perfectly honest - I was not a fan of the 13th Doctor's era. The writing wasn't that great, and as a character, 13, while she did have some well-performed serious scenes, struck me as too scatterbrained for my liking. However, there is absolutely no denying the impact that the casting of Jodie Whittaker has had and will have on Doctor Who and so, as her tenure nears its end (at time of making this drawing), I decided to make a piece celebrating the first (and hopefully not the only) female Doctor.

Yeah, yeah, I know, Soolin was never on the Liberator, shush.
I may still do individual pieces for one or more of these characters, but for now, I felt like doing a group picture. These are the four main female protagonists from across all four seasons of the TV series Blake's 7.
From left to right:
Soolin (Series D)
Cally (Series A-C)
Jenna Stannis (Series A-B)
Dayna Mellanby (Series C-D)

Having decided after moving to a new place and getting my internet connection set up that sitting around doing nothing won't get me anywhere, I started work on a new drawing for the series. From Ultraman Geed, we have the gorgeous badass that is Laiha Toba!

Like a hell of a lot of '90s kids I had a huge crush on Amy Jo Johnson as Kimberly in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. So, it's only fitting that I make one of these pieces for the morphinomenal OG Pink Ranger herself!

I can hardly call myself a sci-fi fan if I don't take time to pay tribute to an icon of the genre. RIP.

All those assembled pray gaze in reverence upon the legend, the force of nature, NAY...the GOD (she said so herself) that is, Susan Ivanova, Commander of Babylon 5!
Thought I'd try something different with this one and make the close-up shot partially transparent. Mainly did it here to make the station more visible, but I like how it turned out, and might do it with future pieces.

Alternate title: "The Light and Dark Side of Laura Bailey"
Been getting back into Star Wars: The Old Republic, enjoying it a lot more than I was expecting to. My first playthrough on this return trip was as a Sith Inquisitor, during the course of which I played the Taris Imperial questline, featuring the character Thana Vesh. While I didn't recognize it the first few times I played, coming into this playthrough having seen plenty of Critical Role, I almost instantly recognized Laura Bailey as the voice behind Thana. I was prepared to just leave it at that as a surprising, happy coincidence, but after finishing the Sith Inquisitor story, I started a new story as a Jedi Knight, who has as one of their companions a Padawan named Kira Carsen, who was voiced by...Laura Bailey!
Kira has quickly become one of my favorite characters, and that plus my surprise at encountering two of her characters in back to back campaigns meant I had to do a piece featuring both, coincidentally making this the second piece I've done featuring a Laura Bailey character.

What can I say? Another icon, another badass, and yes, she's damn sexy as well! Annika Hansen, also known as the former Borg drone Seven of Nine.
And before any hardcore Trekkies out there give me a hard time, yes, I purposefully drew Picard-era Seven with a Voyager-era hand phaser. My original plan was to give her one of those phaser rifle-type things she had in PIC: S1 E5, but the design was too complicated for me (WAY too many goddamn lines); the hand phaser was easier to draw. Besides, who's to say she didn't keep a memento or two from her Voyager days?

If you've followed any of my creative efforts in the past, you'll likely know that with anything I do creatively, be it the Let's Plays I've made, the games I've reviewed, or even the art I've made, I try to stay away from the obvious. The things that "literally everyone and their (insert preferred blood relative here) have heard of". But even so, some things are just no-brainers to cover.
Case in point: I'm a video gamer. I'm a sci-fi fan. I have a fan art series on this site called "Ladies of Sci-Fi". To not feature Samus Aran would seem to me to defeat the point as much as it could conceivably be defeated. Naturally, didn't stop me from holding off on drawing her for a while, but nonetheless, here she is at last. The Chozo-powered bounty hunting icon that is Samus Aran!

Was playing through Fallout: New Vegas and Fallout 4 recently, and decided to do a group scene of my favorites of the female followers. Tried my best to capture their personalities or signature characteristics. We have Piper, the newshound, snapping a pic of Veronica (who had a thing for dresses, so I had her in Vera Keyes's outfit from the "Dead Money" DLC while I had her with me), while the red-headed firebrands from the two games share their favorite vice.
To answer a couple of potential questions:
Why no Curie?
I'll admit I found her charming at first. Hard not to fall in love with that thick French accent of hers. But after a while I didn't feel like I connected with her as much as I did with Piper and Cait.
Why no Fallout 3?
I played and even beat 3 when it first came out, but in more recent attempts to play through it, I always got bored shortly into it.
Why no Interplay Fallouts?
Apart from a minute or two of the first game when I was trying to record it, I haven't touched any of them.
Why no other characters?
I'd considered it. In particular, I was very tempted to include Desdemona, mainly due to her being voiced by Claudia Christian, but eventually decided to keep things restricted to the companion characters.
The background behind the rooftop I drew everyone on is a screenshot I took from Fallout 4. Everything else is my own work. Please do not use without my express permission. Thank you.

I was trying to think of a character I liked that's unexpected - someone who wouldn't instantly spring to mind when you think "Sci-Fi" - and I eventually thought of this one-off character from the Doctor Who episode "Warriors of the Deep". Preston was a member of the crew of Sea Base 4 in that particular story, and she struck me as having companion potential. She was definitely a soldier, no question about that, but didn't seem like the type that would blindly follow orders, i.e., the type of soldier the Doctor can't stand. I felt if she were a companion, she might provide an interesting contrast to the Fifth Doctor's pacifist nature or, if she stayed with him post-regeneration, perhaps a kind of cohort or "enabler" to the Sixth Doctor's slightly more violent tendencies. An interesting little "what if" exercise.

It occurred to me (probably later than it should have) that I made an entry to this series showcasing my favorite female Power Ranger, and so it's only right that I do the same for the source material and honor my favorite female Sentai Ranger. And so we have Luka from Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger. Possibly the most "piratey" of the pirate rangers, maybe with the exception of Captain Marvelous, but he's male so we're not talking about him :-P . Her whole schtick, at least in the beginning, was basically "Sure I'll save the world, so long as I get paid"; you could almost see the dollar signs (or I guess, in her case, yen signs) in her eyes everywhere she looked.

Safe to say Babylon 5 is having a good year this year. There's the reboot coming soon to the CW, although it's been delayed by the current (as of this post) Writers' Guild strike, there's the soon-to-be-released animated movie, and on top of all that, 2023 is the show's 30th anniversary. So, I made this piece featuring the five major female characters of the series:

Doctor Who fans are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the debut of Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor (which was actually in 1974, but his 1st episode aired on December 28th, so it may as well have been 1975), so I decided to do art pieces for some of his companions, namely Sarah Jane, Leela, and Romana. Won't be doing one for Nyssa or Tegan since they debuted so late in Four's run (2nd-to-last and last story respectively) that their basically Fifth Doctor companions, plus I've already done a piece on Tegan.
Anyway, starting things off with arguably one of the most popular companions in all of classic Doctor Who, maybe even NuWho as well, Sarah Jane Smith. I decided to try a couple of different brushes for making the hair and the wrinkles in the clothes, in an effort to make them look slightly more realistic. I think they turned out great!

Next up in my celebration of 50 years of the Fourth Doctor is Leela, Warrior of the Sevateem!
For those unfamiliar with Doctor Who, yes, I meant to make Leela's eyes two different colors in the two pictures; her eye color changed midway through her run.

Finally in my celebration of the Fourth Doctor's 50th anniversary is both versions of the Time Lady Romanadvoratrelundar - "Romana" for short!
Before any of the more hardcore Whovians "Um, actually" me, I'm well aware there's two more incarnations of Romana, but they're specific to Big Finish's audio line, and I sadly haven't listened to any BF productions except The Sirens of Time (so please don't spoil any content for me), and besides this is in commemoration of the Fourth Doctor's era on the TV show, during which we only saw Romanas I and II.
